"New Conversations" tour features Sistema NB Miramichi Children's Orchestra

Sistema NB Richibucto Centre Director--Swan Serna guest conducts the Sistema Miramichi Children's Orchestra

The Sistema NB Miramichi Children's Orchestra was featured at the "New Conversations" tour at the Rodd Miramichi River Hotel on Monday, April 23rd. Richibucto Sistema NB Centre Director Swan Serna served as guest conductor. The tour is sponsored by the NB Multicultural Council; and the Miramichi stop is one of 15 community events across the province to engage in dialogue about population growth and workforce opportunities for new Canadians.

Following an exciting showcase performance by the Sistema Miramichi Children's Orchestra, Economist David Campbell spoke to the gathering of 100 people on immigration and the economy. Several community entrepreneurs and new Canadians also took turns relating their immigration experiences.

Swan Serna, a native of Mexico, spoke of his experience coming to New Brunswick after completing his bachelor's and master's studies in violin performance in Montreal and Quebec City. Swan's Sistema NB Richibucto Centre was launched by NBYO in 2012 and daily serves students from four schools in District scolaire francophone Sud at L'école Soleil Levant. In 2016 Swan's Sistema NB Richibucto team added daily mid-day Sistema NB programming at the Elsipogtog First Nation School.

Sistema NB centres currently serve over 1,000 children in nine communities--Moncton, Saint John, Richibucto, Tobique First Nation & Perth-Andover, Edmundston, Miramichi, Hillsborough, Elsipogtog, and Fredericton. The tenth Sistema NB centre will lauch in September 2018 in Tracadie.
