YOA Global Leader Liz Ramirez making music with NBYO & Sistema NB

YOA Orchestra of the Americas Global Leader Liz Ramirez spent two action-packed January 2017 weeks making friends and making music at Sistema NB centres in Elsipogtog First Nation, Richibucto, Moncton, and Saint John…and performing in concert with NBYO. Global Leaders Program is a professional training course that advocates for the value of music as a tool in community development and supports new music education initiatives being formed with this purpose.

Through remote classroom training guided by a faculty of industry leaders and with a series of tailored academic courses overseen by YOA, Oxford University (UK), and McGill University (Canada), a cohort of 35 emerging musical leaders from across the globe take part in a professional certificate program in Community Leadership, Social Entrepreneurship, and Teaching Artistry for musicians. In addition, participants travel on Missions to dynamic international communities to broaden insights and put learning into practice.

Liz traveled from Queens, New York to share her clarinet teaching artistry and passion for social change with Sistema NB children and faculty in each location.

The NBYO rehearsal concert weekend in Moncton (January 13 to 15) was highlighted by a Saturday evening concert at the Moncton Wesleyan Celebration Centre. Ms. Ramirez fit right in with the NBYO woodwinds. She enjoyed participating in both the performance and the public announcement of planned 2017 NBYO CANADA 150 celebration plans and events.

"Being a part of the GLP has allowed me to continue my growth as a musician, educator and human being. Working alongside the musicians and staff members of Sistema NB has been a beautiful insight into how music is being used as a vehicle for social change across the world," said Global Leader Ramirez.

It was a pleasure to have Liz with us. She even gave a woodwind master class to members of the Moncton Youth Orchestra and NBYO on Sunday, January 15th…the day after nearly 1,400 Wesleyan Celebration Centre patrons sang Happy Birthday Canada at the big concert. Guest Artists Les Muses coaxed Premier Brian Gallant into joining them for a video-recorded rendition too.

Everyone at Sistema NB, MYO, and NBYO appreciated Liz Ramirez’s engagement with our kids and programming. She proved to be an excellent Global Leader/ambassador of the YOA Orchestra of the Americas.

THANKS, Liz…please keep in touch with your NBYO—Sistema NB friends!
