Dozens of parents and children were packed into James M. Hill Memorial High School Theatre for the Sistema Miramichi Season Finale Concert on Saturday, June 9.

Sistema New Brunswick arrived in Miramichi back in October 2015, ultimately creating 30 spaces for local elementary school-aged children to receive hands-on classical training from some of the country’s top musicians out of space within the new King Street Elementary School.

The program is a branch of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, and has already helped connect hundreds of New Brunswick children to the type of experience they might not have otherwise had the chance to take part in.

Sistema Miramichi operates in partnership with the Anglophone North School District, the City of Miramichi, the Miramichi Boys and Girls Club, the Highland Society of New Brunswick in Miramichi, and the Kinsmen Club of Miramichi.

Sistema’s programming has been spreading steadily throughout New Brunswick since it was established here back in 2009 with the help of the youth orchestra.

Schools in Moncton, Saint John, Edmundston, the Tobique First Nation, Richibucto and now Miramichi provide the free lessons to over 700 students.
