CBC reporter Nipun Tiwari stopped by the Sistema NB Oromocto Centre last week to chat with staff and students about the program’s work with children of military and veteran families.
The Oromocto Centre, funded in part by Veterans Affairs Canada, opened earlier this year and now welcomes more than 60 students. For many children from military families who move frequently, the program offers not only the chance to learn an instrument but also a sense of stability, confidence, and community.
Centre Director Ian Gibson shared how music gives these students a skill they can carry with them wherever they go, and how the program’s connection to military band traditions makes it especially meaningful in this community.
