Sistema NB Fredericton graduate and NBYO violist Emmett Flores took the stage on Wednesday, November 19th, at Fredericton’s Playhouse Theatre for the United Way’s United in Song event. The evening showcased storytellers from United Way Maritimes-funded organizations who shared personal stories of transformation, paired with performances from local artists creating original compositions inspired by each story.

One highlight of the night was Emmett’s reflection on his musical journey. He spoke about how Sistema NB opened doors for him, providing opportunities to grow his passion and skills for music. His dedication and talent have already been recognized nationally, Emmett was awarded the winner of the National Music Festival in the Junior Composition category and is currently taking composition classes at St. Thomas University. Emmett was paired with guitarist Connor Fox, of the Hypochondriacs, who performed a bluesy song telling Emmett’s story.

“The man and his friend, were off to see the word to no end, to places they’d never been, The man and his friend, Once a quiet boy and his violin, They had something, Oh they had something to say.”

NBYO is deeply grateful for the support of the United Way, which helps make our mission possible- inspiring young musicians like Emmett to achieve their full potential.
