CBC News has highlighted the incredible journey of 15-year-old violist Daniel Milliea, a proud member of Elsipogtog First Nation, a former student of the Sistema NB Elsipogtog Centre, and a current musician in both the Moncton Youth Orchestra and the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra. Daniel has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall on December 20 after earning third place in the international American Protégé talent competition.

Daniel Milliea shares:

I think it’s important because many other people are going through a lot, especially my community. And seeing me going to Carnegie Hall will probably put warmth into their hearts.

Sistema NB Teaching Artist Swan Serna adds:

It’s like the Olympics. It’s the place where the Beatles play, Tchaikovsky … big names.

Before Daniel heads to New York, the community will have a special chance to hear him perform locally at a Fundraising Concert he is hosting at Bonar Law Memorial High School in Rexton on Friday, December 5. All event details can be found on the Facebook event page.
